I have the same issue, I removed my lamp and cleaned the vent screens in lamp also took cotton swabs and cleaned inside if lamp (being careful not to touch the of lamp WITH FINGERS (took a cloth to hold lamp) has been working like new even a difference in pic quality! I went to bulb solutions and have a new lamp on the way.
I do not believe it is a serious issue and it is just the lamp is about wore out. I also set the high altitude setting on my TV I have a KDF-60XS955 as I have read other posters that say it increases the fan speed? I have a 5-year old Sony projection TV model # KF-50XBR800. When the TV is turned on it works fine for a few hours.
Then it starts blacking-out (blinking). When it blacks-out the red “Stand By” light blinks 34 times then it comes back on (light bulb & volume). It stays on for about 8 to 15 minutes then it blacks-out again. This cycle repeats endlessly.
